 The stick
is a weapon which is very versatile and effective in self defense.
Training in this weapon can also help the student with footwork and
motions applicable in empty handed sparring.
Several sticks are shown in the picture above. On the left is a
Yuk Mo Bahng Mahng Ee or police stick, in the middle is a Bbahl Lae
Bahng Mahng Ee or laundry stick, and on the right is a set of Dah Deu
Mee Bahng Mahne Ee or ironing sticks. Laying horizontally at the
top is a Kom Bahng De and at the bottom a common training stick.
Historically one common use of this item was as a laundry stick or an
ironing stick. The laundry would be laid out onto a smooth stone
called a Dah Deu Mee Dolh, and rhythmically struck with a Dah
Deu Mee Bahng Mahng Ee until it was wrinkle free. Because of the
ready accessibility to this tool, it became a common weapon when needed
to defend the home.
Our training includes basic handling, blocking, striking, disarming,
partner drills, free style forms, and prescribed black belt forms (when
appropriate). |
