Sparring, in essence, is controlled fighting. Neither opponent is absolutely sure what their opponent will do, and must respond to their attack effectively, and quickly. During this activity control is maintained so that injury to one's partner does not occur. This requires control not only of physical technique, but of the emotions as well. Some say that sparring only has a place in the dojang or during war time, but in actually control over emotions can allow someone to avoid a confrontation or to continue to strive for any goal knowing that it will be achieved with diligence and persistence. Sparring allows us to build these characteristics within ourselves. |
